My name is Tanya, I am a full-time wife, mother, home educator; part-time crafter (sewing and knitting), registered Instructor for Kids Can Sew program and volunteer as a St John Youth Division Manager (being a leader means that I am police vetted and carry a current Level 1 first aid certificate).
I am married to the most wonderful, patient and supportive man ever and am blessed to have a wonderful (adult) son and an amazing (tween) daughter.
This all started because I enjoy sewing and making unique items for my daughter and wanting her to learn the art of sewing. Not finding a suitable class, time and venue made me look into teaching her myself. Thinking that there might be more parents wanting their child(ren) to learn to sew ended with a mental conversation and a Google search . . . a decision was made. I came across Kids Can Sew. I can become a sewing instructor? Where do I sign up? And so Sew Made by Me was born.
* I don’t exclusively use the Kids Can Sew patterns, I’m always looking for new, excited and manageable patterns that can be used.
There is always room to learn and improve knowledge and experience and if one person walks out the door loving the art of sewing, my job has been done successfully.
Memory Buddies started as a hobby and turned into a business very quickly. Again, my daughter was the inspiration for the Memory Buddies idea. After finding some of her old baby blankets and favourite clothes in the back of the linen cupboard. I couldn’t donate them and instead turned them into something special, like a Memory Buddy.
